From the shop: lift supports usually wear out as a pair, so replace both sides at the same time, even if only one feels weak. Support the hood, trunk or liftgate with a helper or a prop rod before you remove the old ones; never let it drop. Most supports install with the rod end down, the way the original was mounted, so take a photo before you remove them. Many pop off with a small screwdriver under the retaining clip. Never heat, puncture or take apart a lift support.
