From the shop: a bearing and its seal work as a team, so replace the seal every time the bearing comes out. On tapered bearings, replace the cone and the cup together, pack the bearing with the right grease and set the preload as the manufacturer says; too tight burns the bearing, too loose lets it hammer. On a clutch job, always replace the release bearing; it is cheap, and a noisy one means pulling the transmission again. When you replace a transmission or crankshaft seal, check the surface the seal rides on for grooves, install the seal straight with the correct driver and lubricate the lip before installation.
