From the shop: on European cars, front-end noise often comes from control arm bushings and links. A clunk over bumps, a wandering feel at highway speed or uneven tire wear are signs to inspect the front end. Check every arm and bushing before you order, because they usually wear together, and replace parts in pairs on the same axle when they are worn. Many European suspensions require the bolts to be tightened with the vehicle at ride height so the rubber bushings are not twisted; skipping this step shortens bushing life. Use new nuts and bolts where the manufacturer calls for them. Get an alignment after you replace control arms, ball joints or tie rod ends.
