From the shop: a belt rarely fails alone. When you replace a serpentine belt, check the tensioner and the idler pulleys for noise and wobble, and make sure all pulleys line up; a bad tensioner will eat a new belt. Coolant hoses should be squeezed when the engine is cold. If a hose is soft, swollen, cracked or hard as a rock, replace it, and replace the clamps too. When you replace a thermostat, use a new gasket or seal, bleed the air out of the system and use the right coolant.
